"Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas." - Albert Einstein

We explore a variety of different concepts such as:
- Populations and Samples
- Multiplication
- Fractions and Ratios
- Decimals
- Long Division

- Measurement
                                                                  - Area and Perimeter
                                                                  - Geometry
                                                                  - Logical Reasoning
                                                                  - Problem Solving / Strand 25

- Students take part in daily mad minutes for both multiplication and division.  Students are given 3 minutes to solve 100 multiplication problems and 3 minutes to solve 50 division problems.  Students keep a record of their progress by graphing their results and time daily.  We strive to beat our time and score each day!

Architects hard at work!

Students have been studying area and perimeter in math.  Students were asked to apply their knowledge of area and perimeter by designing a park given a set of instructions.  Students needed to use appropriate formulas in order to determine the area and perimeter of given spaces, create quadrilateral spaces with proper dimensions when given the area needed for a space, and/or draw a fence of a certain dimension in order to determine its perimeter.

Geometry Builders

Picture
Students have been exploring the world of geometry.  Students worked with a partner on constructing five different geometric solid figures using gumdrops and toothpicks.  The gumdrops represented the vertices of a figure while the toothpicks represented the edges.  Students then worked with their partner to identify the number of faces, edges, and vertices of each figure in order to classify each solid according to its proper name (cube, rectangular prism, triangular prism, square pyramid, and triangular pyramid).

Of coarse, we enjoyed taste-testing some extra vertices when we completed our construction!!
